Thank You, Sitka
Dear Editor: Our family was unexpectedly transferred here in the middle of the winter of 2014, when Mike took over as commanding officer of the CGC Maple. Sitka has been nothing but welcoming since the day we stepped foot onto the island. As we make our next transfer, over to Juneau, we’d like to take the time to thank those who have made our time here so enjoyable.
Thank you for sharing your beaches, trails, fish, waterways, berries and Native culture. Thank you to all of the wonderful people who have taught our children, especially Marlie Loomis and Margie Esquiro for helping with a seamless transition for the “new kids” in the middle of the school year. Thank you to the Hames Center and RockFit for keeping us healthy and fit, physically and mentally. Thank you for the numerous opportunities to learn new things and better ourselves through the Sitka Fine Arts Camp, 4-H, Boy Scouts, Sitka Studio of Dance, Sitka National Historical Park, Sitka Gymnastics, Ocean Wave Quilters, Tsunami Wrestling, Future Problem Solvers, Sitka Sound Science Center, Community Schools, re:Fresh Fitness and the Sitka Public Library. Thank you to everyone who has supported Christy’s business, accesSEWrize handmade, which will continue to operate in Juneau and will be at this year’s Public Market in November.
Sitka is a beautiful place, but it’s the people who make living on this rock so special. We will miss you all, and we will be back!
The Newell Family
