Golf Weekend
Dear Editor: On June 13 and 14 the Sitka Golf Association had a Father’s Day weekend which was a swinging success. Without the generosity of the following sponsors these kinds of events would not be possible. Please thank the following folks when you see them: Ken Helem (Sitka Electric), Colleen Ingram (F/V Jeanine Kathleen), Wayne and Blake Hagerman (Sitka Vision), Tom and Chris Mattingly (Southeast Fire Protection), Cathy Dumag (Spenard Builders Supply), Karl Stedman (Stedman Insurance), Troy Denkinger (Silver Bay Seafood), Rick and Chris Heim (Pioneer Bar), Chris Spivey (First Bank), Barbara Hames (Sea Mart), Liza Martin (Martin Enterprises Inc.), Dan Cox (Quality Processing). Thank you, sponsors.
On June 13, 25 players played through heavy rain to complete an 18-hole scramble tournament with all youths playing for free, followed by a buffet and awards with the following: first-place winners Paddy Hanson Steve Stile, Troy Denkinger and Jerry Sutton; and second place Liza Martin, Blake Hagerman, Ed Kimmel, Marty Martin. The Long Putt winner was Willie Schranqz, Long Drive Women’s Skylar Moore, Long Drive Men’s Troy Denkinger, Closest to the Pin Women’s Skylar Moore, Closest to the Pin Men’s Ed Kimmel, Straight Drive Women’s Colleen Ingram, and Straight Drive Men’s Jerry Sutton.
Take notice that two events were won by Miss Skylar Moore. It is never too early to start golfing.
Father’s Day, June 14, with better weather, Sea Mountain Golf Course offered free parents day. Any youth who brought a parent, the parent played for free. There was a great turnout with more than 30 players playing golf on that wonderful day. Also, the proceeds from that weekend contributed to the scholarship fund and the Hook-a-Kid-on-Golf Program. Thank you, again, sponsors and golfers, for a great weekend. And, thank you, Roger and Judy Sudnikovich, Jud Fager, Dan Keck, Gary Sterton, Gene Prewitt and all the other founding members for the foresight to create such a great golf course for Sitka.
Sitka Golf Association,
Marty Martin, member

Girl Scout Thanks
Dear Editor: Girl Scout Troop 4140 recently returned from a trip to the Pacific Northwest. We were able to volunteer with the Special Olympics and the Food Lifeline of Seattle before we went to Idaho for horseback riding and a day at Silverwood theme park. We had an awesome time and would like to take this opportunity to say a sincere thank you to all the Sitkans who have supported us this past year as we worked hard at fundraising. We appreciate everyone who purchased cookies, bake sale items, attended our car wash or let us babysit your children. A special thank you to Sea Mart Quality Foods for their generous donation.
A display of our trip pictures will be at the library during the month of July.
We have already started planning our next adventure!
