Police Blotter
Sitka police logged the following calls by 8 a.m. today:
June 21
Harbors asked to trespass two people staying illegally on a boat.
A man said he left a bag with fishing gear in it at Beaver Lake.
A fisherman said he lost his white Zodiak skiff off Starrigavan.
At 3:22 p.m. a caller said a couple was fighting on Harbor Drive and a man had decked a woman. Officers spoke to two women, who said nothing physical had occurred, that the man had been yelling at them because they’d been drinking and he couldn’t due to being on conditions of release. Officer saw no injuries on the women.
At 8:32 p.m. a Raptor Center caller said an eagle had impaled itself high up in a tree and she couldn’t get it down by herself. Police and the Fire Department responded.
An intoxicated woman who blew a .294 PBT was taken to a hospital.
At 11 p.m. a caller complained of fireworks in the 4500 block of HPR.
June 22
At midnight a caller reported what sounded like a gunshot from Lance Drive or Wolff Drive. At 12:09 a.m. a caller reported at least five gunshots at totem park. Officers talked to individuals at Eagle Beach, who reported fireworks on Cannon Island Drive.
At 10:49 a.m. a caller said a drug deal was under way, then hung up. Officers spoke to a resident on Lake Street and saw no obvious signs of a crime.
At 3 p.m. a highly intoxicated woman was reported at Sealing Cove. When officers arrived, a relative was picking her up.
A caller said her daughter, was drunk and refusing to leave. When officers arrived she agreed to leave.
At 10:26 p.m. a woman said a man tried to attack her. Police made out a report for assault in the fourth degree.
At 10:51 p.m. an officer checked on smoke at Eagle Beach and found people burning a couch. He advised them against it, and they agreed to make sure the fire was out and clean up the site.
June 23
At 1:25 a.m. an officer made contact with an intoxicated man at Blatchley. The man said he didn’t know why he was at the school in the middle of the night, and was going home. When the officer said he could go he took off in a full sprint.
At 2 a.m. a taxi driver said a women had passed out in the back seat. Her mother agreed to take custody.
At 2:16 a.m. a woman on Price Street said she was afraid someone was outside her home. Officers confirmed the house was secure.
A hydraulic fuel spill was found in the 1000 block of SMC. The fire hall was notified.
The fire hall was called after a sheen was reported on the water off Eagle Beach at 8:17 a.m.
A 911 caller said she had just rear-ended a vehicle that had been “brake-checking” her. An ambulance was called for a man having back pain but he refused transport. Police cited two.
At 2:11 p.m. a caller complained a hotel van driver was speeding and being reckless. The hotel said the driver would be told of the complaint.
Officers talked to three juvenile males reportedly making rude and sometimes racist comments.
An ambulance was called for a patient feeling physically and mentally distressed, and wanting help.
EMS was called for a deli worker who cut her hand on a meat slicer.
At 9 p.m. a 911 caller said a woman was screaming in totem park. Police talked to two kids who admitted to screaming and having fun. They were told their behavior triggered a call to police, and that officers would be talking to their parents.
June 24
At 12:22 a.m. a 911 caller said a neighbor was shouting and screaming. Officers found the neighbor was drunk and had been praying loudly. She was advised of the late hour and asked to keep her voice down.
At 4:31 a.m. a woman’s head was reported hit on the ground in a fight. EMS was called and a woman was arrested.
Sitka Police
Nathaniel Coble, 39, was arrested on a warrant for violating pretrial enforcement division supervision, and was charged with violating conditions of release.
Brian Schauwecker, 39, was cited Sunday for negligent driving, and Anne Pollnow, 49, was cited for following too closely, following a traffic accident in the 2300 block of SMC.
Azureus Stamets, 38, was arrested Sunday on a $10,000 warrant for failing to follow pretrial enforcement division instructions, and charged with violating conditions of release.
Tina Bigley, 42, was charged early today with assault in the third degree in relation to a fight.
Emergency calls
Sitka Fire Department received five ambulance calls Friday; four Saturday; six Sunday; and ones at 4:44 a.m. and 5:01 a.m. today.
At 5 a.m. Saturday a fire was reported aboard a vessel at Sealing Cove. Fire hall officials said the fire resulted from burned food and the boat owner did not allow emergency crew entry.
At 11:43 p.m. Sunday a fire truck and ambulance were sent to a traffic accident but there were no injuries.
Coast Guard
A Coast Guard Air Station Sitka helicopter early today medevacked a 27-year-old woman suffering from lower abdominal pain for more than a week at the Lowrie Island Fish and Game research camp, about 20 miles west of Dall Island. She was hoisted into the aircraft and flown to Sitka.
