Youth Soccer

Dear Editor: Recently, Sitka’s Youth Soccer Program joined the Ketchikan Youth Soccer League (KYSL). Sitka Youth Soccer has been in existence for many years under Community Schools. However, with recent funding cuts, the future of Community Schools is unknown. A group of soccer parents contacted KYSL and their board decided to accept the Sitka program under their umbrella.

The summer season will begin July 1 and run through Aug. 21. Focus will be on three-versus-three games, drills and skill practices. Instead of the traditional 11-versus-11 game, three-versus-three games will give the kids an opportunity to play on a team and compete against other teams throughout the season.

At the end of the season, there will be a tournament for all the teams. Grades 1-3 will practice at Kimsham Field Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:30-5:30. Grades 4-8 will practice at Kimsham Field Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:30-6 p.m. The price is $90 (scholarships available) and includes a shirt, shorts and socks.

To register go to www.ketchikanyouthsoccer.net. Sitka is towards the bottom as you scroll down. If you have any questions, please contact bridgethitchcock@hotmail.com or call Bridget at 738-5515 or Randy at 738-2172.

Bridget Hitchcock,
