The following calls were logged as of 8 a.m. today.

June 2

At 10:12 a.m. a caller reported dogs had been barking for a couple of hours on Sirstad Street. However, they stopped barking a short time later.

A dispute was reported at a laundry center at 10:22 a.m. It was resolved.

Harassment charges were to be forwarded following a disturbance at Lake Street and SMC.

At 7:24 p.m. young drivers were reported racing up and down on Harbor Mountain Road and HPR. Police advised the drivers of the complaint.

A man reported his vehicle was missing when he returned from fishing for three days. Police began a search.

An erratic driver was reported on Katlian Street. Police didn’t find a driver matching the description.

June 3

A caller reported a burglary of her apartment, but nothing appeared missing.

June 4

A hit and run was reported on Katlian. Police located a suspect, and provided forms.

At 5:8 a.m. a deer was reported to have been struck near Halibut Point Recreation Area. Police found it, but its leg was broken and it had to be dispatched. The remains were given to charity.

A hit and run was reported at 3:26 p.m. in the 700 block of HPR, but no police assistance was requested.

At 11:07 p.m. police found a vehicle with all four doors open, in the 700 block of HPR. An officer closed the doors.

 

Emergency Calls

Sitka Fire Department received two ambulance calls Friday, one on Saturday and five on Sunday. Also on Sunday the department responded to an ATV which was letting off smoke  on Arrowhead Street at 10 a.m. Sunday. The matter was resolved in about 10 minutes, the fire hall said.

 

In Court

Steven A. Morales, 34, on a Jan. 17 charge of driving under the influence  was sentenced May 31 to 90 days with 87 suspended, and was fined $2,000 with $500 suspended. He is to complete a behavioral health assessment and follow recommendations. His driver’s license was revoked for 90 days, and he will be on probation for two years. On March 16 and April 24 charges of violating conditions of release he was sentenced to 20 days with 19 days suspended on each. Two other charges of violating conditions of release were dismissed by the prosecution.

Jason Svilar, 29, on a May 6 charge of violating conditions of release was sentenced May 31 to 30 days, suspended, and fined $500, with $250 suspended. He will be on probation a year. A charge of driving with a license canceled, revoked or suspended was dismissed. On a Feb. 21 charge of violating conditions of release he was sentenced to 30 days, suspended, and fined $500 with $250 suspended. On an Oct. 14, 2022, charge of driving with a license canceled, revoked or suspended he was sentenced to 10 days, suspended.

Corey David Kadake, 29, on a Jan. 1 charge of driving under the influence on May 31 was sentenced to 180 days with 160 suspended and fined $4,000 with $1,000 suspended. He is to complete an integrated behavioral  health assessment and follow recommendations. His driver’s license was revoked for one year, and he was placed on probation for two years. On a charge of criminal mischief in the fifth degree, tampering with property, he was sentenced to 30 days, suspended. A charge of resist/interfere with arrest by force was dismissed by the prosecution. 

Daniel R. Mossburg, 27, on a Dec. 26, 2022, charge of criminal mischief in the fifth degree, damage under $250,  was sentenced on May 24 to 60 days, suspended, and fined $500 with $400 suspended. He was placed on probation for one year. A Dec. 26, 2022, charge of assault in the fourth degree,  causing fear of injury, was dismissed by the prosecution.

Mckenzie Cline, 26, on a Jan. 27 charge of resisting/interfering with an arrest by force was sentenced May  24 to 120 days, suspended, and fined $1,000 with $500 suspended. She will be on probation for one year.

Jacobo Isai Lopez-Vazquez, 27, on Dec. 4, 2022, charge of driving under the influence was sentenced May 23 to 90 days with 87 suspended and fined $2,000 with $500 suspended. He is to get a behavioral health assessment and follow recommendations. His driver’s license is revoked for 90 days, and he will be on probation for a year.
