Juneau Asks Sitka LL Team Not to Play in Tourney

Sitka Little League Majors Baseball team, scheduled to play in the Alaska District 2 tournament in Juneau this weekend, has been asked not to come because of the increase here in virus cases.

“City and Borough of Juneau has asked us not to come to Juneau because of our high COVID numbers,” Sitka Little League president Karen Case told the Sentinel by text. “The boys and coaches are so disappointed.”

The Sitka Majors team was set to play against Ketchikan on Friday and against Juneau on Saturday to kick off the tournament.

Although the Majors Baseball players (ages 9-12) won’t be traveling to Juneau, the Minors (ages 7-11) baseball tournament planned here for this weekend and next week is still on the schedule, Case added. Sitka and Ketchikan are set to play a seven-games series, starting at 4 p.m. Saturday at Moller Field.
