Results from Tuesday’s municipal election show Kevin Knox and Thor Christianson as the apparent winners in the race for two Assembly seats.
Knox, one of the incumbents, received 1,140 votes, and Christianson 948. Other candidates for Assembly were Ben Miyasato (579), Steve Lee (483) and incumbent Aaron Bean (258).
Newcomer Paul Rioux received the most votes in the School Board contest, with 1,142. The other candidate in the race for the single School Board seat was Cass Pook, who received 616.
The ballot proposition failed, 739 to 1,099, which would have banned disposable plastic shopping bags in Sitka.
A total of 1,857 ballots were cast on election day. Up to 404 absentee ballots will be counted Friday.
The Assembly is scheduled to certify the results at its next regular meeting October 8.
