Kristina Rae Discher

Kristina Rae Discher, a former Sitka resident, passed away suddenly on March 27, in Bellingham, Washington. She was 36.

She was born June 18, 1986, in Sitka. She was a Raven/Frog from the Clay house in Sitka. Her Tlingit name was S’gaatoot. She was a citizen of Sitka Tribe of Alaska and Tlingit and Haida.

Kristi, as she was known, was a happy child spending time on the beach with her siblings or chilling with her pets at home.

She graduated from Pacific High School, class of 2004, and that was when her life truly began – she was able to love, learn, and leave everything she didn’t need behind.

She spent time in Washington, Oregon, Texas, and Puerto Rico during her journey.

Friends, family, and foes would tell you that Kristi was selfless, ever-loving, and was tough as nails. Her beautiful smile, delicious food, and warm heart will forever be cherished.

Kristi touched a lot of souls throughout her time in the service industry. She always had music in her life, and it kept her moving along during the golden and gray. She was a loving daughter, a wise sister, and an incredible person overall.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Arlene Gamble, and grandparents, Art Gamble and Anita Wright, and Richard and Marcia Discher.

She is survived by her father, Edward Discher of Sitka; siblings James Craig (Sarah) of Chadron, Nebraska, and Kelly Barnaby (Matt) of Juneau; and numerous other relatives throughout Alaska, Washington, and Arizona.

An online gathering of friends will take place 10 a.m. Saturday, May 6. Please use the following link:  https://fb.me/e/4W0Fa4P4H.

A small, private celebration of her life will be held at an as yet to be determined date. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the SAFV Shelter: SAFV: P.O. Box 6136, Sitka, AK 99835.
