Library Funding

Posted

Dear Editor: On page 56 of the budget released by the president of the U.S., it calls for the elimination of the Institute of Museum and Library Services. What does this mean? NO FUNDING for public libraries.

Our public libraries cross all socioeconomic levels, providing not only books, but wonderful summer programs for children of all ages: summer reading club, piano lessons, puppet shows . . . The Haines library features many programs for adults, as well, to keep us informed and entertained year-round.

Write to your legislators (Murkowski, Sullivan & Begich) and let them know that you support your local library and do not want to see funding cut.

Nelle Jurgeleit-Greene, Haines
