Life of Zane J. Bacon, 46, To be Celebrated Aug. 15

A celebration of the life of Zane Joel Bacon, 46, will be held 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 15, at the Halibut Point Recreation Area main shelter.

Zane passed away on April 9, 2020, in Anchorage.

He was born to Harlan Leo Bacon and Wilma (Joseph) Bacon on Aug. 17, 1973, in Sitka. He was a lifelong Sitka resident.

Zane was a member of the Raven Coho Clan, and his Tlingit name was Xéisteen.

He attended Sitka schools and graduated from Sitka High School in 1991. He worked for the State of Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities and for the City and Borough of Sitka.

Zane was a loving father, boyfriend, brother, son, and uncle. He enjoyed many activities including hunting, boating, camping, and spending time with his family at the family cabin at Saint John Baptist Bay. He loved shooting his guns and always enjoyed cutting trees with the smell of that 2-stroke exhaust.

Zane always had a smile on his face, had an amazing sense of humor, and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He is greatly missed.

Survivors include: his girlfriend Melissa McCrehin and children Tristan Bacon and Logan Bacon, all of Sitka; mother Wilma Bacon of Sitka; siblings Michael Bacon of Anchorage, Gillian Havrilla of Anchorage, Christian and wife Louise Bacon of Lewiston, Idaho, Charlie and wife Frankie Bacon of Sitka, and Leota Bagby of Anchorage; nieces Diana and husband Don Morris of Sedro Woolley, Washington, Natasha Bacon of Anchorage, Kerri Bacon of Vancouver, Washington, Michelle Bacon of Anchorage, Trynnity and husband Daniel Pena of Bend, Oregon, Jessica and husband Nick Oberg of Phoenix, Arizona, Sheridan Bacon of Sitka, and Naya Bagby of Plymouth, California; nephews, Jorian Havrilla of Anchorage, Deylon Bacon of Lewiston, Austin Bacon, stationed with the U.S. Coast Guard in Alameda, California, Steven Bacon of Chewelah, Washington, and Virgil and wife Sam Bacon of Eagle River.

He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, great-nieces and -nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father Harlan Leo Bacon, brother Steven Bacon, grandparents Charlie and Annie Joseph and Virgil Bacon and Clara Reisbeck; and nephew-in-law Joe Naame.
