Liquor Licenses

Posted

Dear Editor: I have been in Sitka now pushing a bit more than 30 years. A good part of my early time in Sitka was spent as a director of youth and adult programs concerning drugs and alcohol. I like that Sitka is a more churches-than-bars town. There are some very good programs still dealing with the same issues.

Below is a letter, not written by me, but I strongly support it and it says  way better than I can. Thank you and the community for your concern.

“In Sitka there is a proposed ordinance to expand the number of liquor licenses for bars and restaurants that will be heard Oct. 28. Through this process the originators of this change did not consider the impact on public health, the economic impact on current businesses that purchased expensive licenses with an understanding there would be limits on new licenses, the impact on the local police force, and, frankly the letter and intent of the law.”
