Local volleyball and cross country teams will compete in Sitka over the weekend. All local sports events are open to the public, though some events do have an entry fee. The times and locations of the various events are listed below.

Volleyball games at Edgecumbe are free to attend. Games at Sitka cost $5 for adults and $3 for seniors, but are free for students. Given the stellar performance of both local volleyball teams against Ketchikan and Anchorage Christian last weekend, the matches between Sitka and Edgecumbe this weekend show promise.
Cross country teams will run on Saturday at Sitka National Historical Park in the Region V Championships. All races begin and end at the Sitka Sound Science Center, and are free to attend. The schedule is as follows.
10 a.m. Open Community Run
11 a.m. Division III Boys Run
11:40 a.m. Division I/II Boys
12:15 p.m. Division III Girls
12:55 p.m. Division I/II Girls
The community run at 10 a.m. is free, and no advance registration is required. All races are 5 kilometers, or 3.1 miles.
Best of all, the rank smell of rotting salmon in the park has dissipated due to recent rains.
Good luck to the teams competing this weekend!
