The Sitka High School and Mt. Edgecumbe High School girls basketball teams are hanging on in the latest Alaska Association of Basketball Coaches poll.
The Lady Wolves (7-9) have vaulted into the top five standings with a seat at no. 4 and the Lady Braves (5-8) have slid down to the no. 5 position. This comes after a wild week in which the Lady Wolves defeated Homer 45-26 last Friday and 45-18 on Saturday, and the Lady Braves swamped Homer 46-24 on Thursday and then split with the 4A Ketchikan Lady Kings, losing Friday 57-42 and then defeating Kayhi for the first time since 2015 on Saturday, 46-35.
Sitka and Mt. Edgecumbe boys haven’t broken into the polls as yet, despite being among the most competitive teams in the state. The two just clashed on Tuesday at Sitka High School with the visiting Braves topping the Wolves 55-49.

Last week the Braves topped the visiting Homer Mariners 37-28 on Thursday at B.J. McGillis Gymnasium and then were swept on the same court by the visiting Lathrop Malemutes 48-42 on Friday and 48-39 Saturday.
The Wolves were bitten by the visiting Lathrop Malemutes 50-41 on Wednesday in the SHS gym, then turned the series around with a 45-38 win on Thursday. The Braves dropped two games to the visiting Homer Mariners by the scores of 54-43 on Friday and 44-32 on Saturday.
All four teams are on the road this weekend and begin play tonight through Saturday at tournament venues. The Sitka Wolves and Lady Wolves are at the Homer Invitational Tournament and the Mt. Edgecumbe Braves and Lady Braves are at the Kotzebue Invitational Tournament.
