Eva Diaz
Longtime Sitka resident Eva Diaz went to Heaven on October 24, 2021, unexpectedly and without warning.
Eva moved to Sitka from Nayarit, Mexico, in the late 1980s for adventure, and to be near her sister “Cuty.” Eva worked with her family in the El Dorado restaurant and, later, in the Mi Ranchito restaurant.
The Diaz family was one of the first Mexican families to settle in Sitka. Eva was a steady, hard-working employee of both Seafood Producers Cooperative and Sitka Sound Seafoods for more than 30 years.
In her humility and gentleness, she spread love and joy wherever she went, and always gave good, solid, “down-to-earth” common sense wisdom and counsel to those in need.
She was greatly loved by her family, her many friends and co-workers, and she is sorely missed. Cards of sympathy can be sent to Silvia Diaz, 362 Kaagwaantaan, Sitka, Alaska 99835.
Eva Diaz was born April 23, 1960, in Tierra Generosa (generous Earth), Nayarit, Mexico, on the family farm, the third of 10 children of Abundio and Aurelia Diaz Partida. The rancho had cows, maiz, mango, tobacco, frijoles, chiles, poultry, watermelon and cucumbers, and produced milk and cream, cheese and panela for the town. Eva helped out on the rancho with her brothers and sisters until moving to Sitka. During her childhood, she was fond of volleyball, hopscotch, flowers and birds. Her homes in Tuxpan and Tepic are still full of birds and flowers!
Eva was preceded in death by her parents, Abundio and Aurelia; brother Laurencio; and nephews Elmer and Ulises Diaz, David Diaz, and Jorge Diaz.
Eva is survived by her life partner Francisco “Pancho” Javier Rodriguez; her brothers and sisters Maria “Cuty” Diaz, Guillermo and Lupita Diaz, Socorro and Armando Cervantes Diaz, Maria Diaz Rodriguez, Martin and Roe Diaz, Gonzalo and Norma Diaz, Aurelia “Bella” Diaz, Mirella and Martin Diaz, and Dionicio “Nicho” Diaz.
Shes also is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, Silvia and Luis Ponce Diaz, Nancy and “Memito” Diaz, Omar, Ailene and Armando Cervantes Diaz, Raul, Sayonara, Modesto, and Gisle Diaz Rodriguez, Maydali and Gonzalito Diaz, Jesus “Chui” Diaz, and Israel, Jerusalem and Jimena Diaz; and numerous great-nieces and -nephews, and great-great-nieces and -nephews.
A full memorial service was held in Tierra Generosa, Nayarit, Mexico where Eva Diaz is laid to rest at the family tomb, “absent from the body, and present with the Lord.” – II Corinthians 5:8
