Man United co-owner Ineos' Swiss club Lausanne fires coach

Posted

LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) — Manchester United ’s sibling club in Switzerland, Lausanne-Sport, fired coach Luka Elsner on Tuesday after five months in the job, citing poor results.

Lausanne, owned by British chemicals giant Ineos led by Jim Ratcliffe, is last in the 12-team Swiss top tier after winning just one of 12 games in Elsner’s debut season.

On Sunday, the team led 4-1 at home to Thun entering the 70th minute and lost 5-4.

Results are “the determining factor,” Lausanne said in a statement, adding the best decision was to end its partnership with the Slovenian coach.

Ineos also owns French club Nice and has a minority stake in United, where Ratcliffe was given control of soccer operations by majority owners the Glazer family.

United is down in 17th place in the Premier League with coach Michael Carrick widely expected to be fired this month.
