Playground Project
Dear Editor: Woo-hoo! The Sitka Community Playground volunteer group would like to say THANK YOU to the community for their generous donations during our fundraising drive, which started in the fall of 2016. Because of your support, we are well on our way to revamping Crescent Harbor Playground into an inclusive, low-maintenance, safe, vibrant community space.
We hope to prepare the playground surface in the fall of 2017 and start installing equipment in the spring of 2018. There’s still time to give! So far, we have raised almost $332,000 through grants and contributions from more than 110 businesses, organizations and individuals. We are nearly halfway to our overall goal of $730,000.
We are just a few hundred dollars short of our $75,000 local fundraising goal thanks in part to some recent fundraising events. Thank you to the Masonic Lodge for organizing the raffle; Sea Mart, Petro Marine and Sitka Sound Seafoods for donating raffle prizes; the Elks Lodge for hosting our lasagna dinner and dessert auction and the Emblem Club for their generous donation; Beth Short Rhoads and her volunteer crew of lasagna bakers for providing a delicious dinner; Grechen Stockel for organizing the dessert auction and recent garage sale; the Sitka Fine Arts Camp for the use of the Rasmuson Building for the garage sale; Southeast Alaska Independent Living for support and accounting services; and everyone who has contributed money or a helping hand to our fundraisers … THANK YOU!
Save the date for our next fundraiser – a family concert featuring Joe Montagna, Kirsten Stockel and Brian Hullfish, on Saturday, April 1. Watch for details coming soon.
Everyone is welcome to join in the effort. If you’re interested in helping out or want more information, please contact Bridget at 747-1771 or find us on Facebook at “Sitka Community Playground.”
Thank you, Sitka!
