Region V Tourney
Dear Editor: Thank you, thank you, thank you, Sitka!
This past week we were flooded with 700-plus participants and their families and fans for the Region V tournament. It was an incredible event. While we have MANY to thank I want to start out by thanking all the families that stepped up to house the incoming participants. We know that can be a challenge – especially for a week – but those teams we housed were so grateful for all of your efforts. They praised the city and the families that make this city. Thank you.
Also, I would like to thank a few folks who stepped up to take big groups of kids. Thank you to the Trooper Academy, the Wild Strawberry Lodge, the Fitzgibbon family, Sitka Lutheran, and the Sitka Fine Arts Camp. Without all of you, we would have really been in a pinch.
Next, a huge thanks to Prewitt’s, Sitka Tours and Sea Mart for providing the many buses and luggage trucks needed to transport all the participants.
Finally, without the many PSAs and ads provided by the Sitka Daily Sentinel, Raven Radio, KIFW and the Problem Corner we would have never reached so many people. Thank you all. Once again, Sitka provided the hospitality for a wonderful week and event. Thanks to all the support that our amazing community was able to provide. Thank you,

Presidential Race
Dear Editor: Starting some nine months ago this race for the president has gradually reminded me of a Bob Dylan song. Mr. Dylan was referring to an (outsider) candidate back in 1960 (I think) who was sort of like Joseph McCarthy – back in the 1950s. Anyway, to quote Dylan: ‘‘Now, I’m a liberal, but to a degree; I want ev’rybody to be free; But if you think that I’ll let Barry Goldwater move in next door and marry my daughter, You must think I’m crazy! I wouldn’t let him do it for all the farms in Cuba.’’
Personally, I think when candidates debate they should address issues and seriously present their rational approaches and solutions to these situations and ... not engage in finger-pointing and riling up the crowd and unrealistic negative stuff.
Politely and sincerely,
Wayne C. Bowers, Sitka
