Library Friends Thanks
Dear Editor: Sitka Babies and Books is a non-profit organization that encourages children to become lifelong readers by providing books and programs for them, as well as parent education and support during their child’s first three years. We would like to thank the Friends of the Sitka Public Library for their recent grant award of $500. And we would also like to note that they have been faithful supporters of the Sitka Babies and Books program for many years.
Early language and literacy development begins in those first three years of life and are closely linked to a child’s earliest experiences with books and stories, and visits to the library with their family. These grant monies will be used to purchase books locally to be presented to newborns and participants in the programs offered by Babies and Books, and for materials that are used in the grab-and-go bags that we are offering during these times when we cannot gather for special events in the library.
Thank you to the Friends of the Sitka Public Library for their continued support of Sitka Babies and Books. We know that early readers make lifelong library patrons, and with the support of our “friends,” we can continue to encourage the young readers of Sitka.
