Pacific High Thanks
Dear Editor: Hillary Seeland and the cast of Pacific High School would like to thank the following people for their donations of time and energy to our herring class. A hefty clupea pallasii thank you to: Jeff Feldspauch and the Sitka Tribe of Alaska; Dave Gordon and the Alaska Department of Fish and Game; Wayne Unger, Ashley and Juan of Silver Bay Seafoods; Steve Reifenstuhl of NSRAA; and Sid Carle and Dale Bartells of the F/V Hukilau.
These community partnerships allow PHS students to experience authentic learning that ties directly to their lives and community. We even got to hold live king crabs (thanks, Juan) and eat year-old Tootsie Pops (thanks, Dale).

Keet Project Fair
Dear Editor: Over the past several weeks and months several Sitka families have worked with their children to create projects in research, technology, collections, scientific investigations, creativity, and so much more to share with the community at the Keet Gooshi Heen Project Fair. Nearly 60 projects were on display at the fair, and nearly 400 students, along with over 100 community members, visited the projects. Completing a project requires planning, commitment, and creativity – it’s a great way for families to learn and play together.
This wonderful event was made possible thanks to volunteers Wendy Alderson and Grace Gjertsen, along with many students who helped move tables and projects, and the staff of Keet Gooshi Heen Elementary School. A special thank you goes to Abby Walker and Ramon Quevedo and their many mentors who assisted students with projects after school. Especially important, though, are the students and families whose excellent work was showcased at the project fair.
It’s estimated this event has been happening at KGH for nearly 30 years, and we’ll do it again next year, too!
