Sitka Police Department logged the following calls as of 8 a.m. today.

March 1

At 7:14 a.m. a man and woman were found sleeping in the city hall bicycle shed. They were told to leave.

At 8:13 a.m. a driver reported being cut off by another vehicle in the 1800 block of HPR. Police didn’t find anyone driving erratically.

At 9:42 a.m. a caller complained of junked vehicles in the 100 block of Price Street.

A lost iPhone was traced to ANB Harbor but a search to find its exact location failed.

At 11:17 a.m. a woman was found sleeping in the Eliason Harbor restroom. She agreed to leave.

A landlord reported a tenant had moved out leaving the rental place damaged.

At 12:56 p.m. a fire was reported at a downtown hotel after oil from a fryer spilled, resulting in smoke.

At 1:23 p.m. a woman reported a hit and run near a downtown hotel. Police opened a case file.

At 1:35 p.m. a caller reported finding what appeared to be a human scalp off the 800  block of SMC. It turned out to be a hat.

At 9:21 p.m. a security check was made in the 200 block of Katlian.

 

 

Sitka Police

Derek Stewart, 34, was arrested Tuesday on a charge of violating conditions of release on a Jan. 27 charge of concealment of merchandise valued under $250.

 

Emergency Calls

Sitka Fire Department received ambulance calls at 12:55 p.m., 3:25 p.m., 5:44 p.m., 7:07 p.m. and 11:42 p.m. Tuesday.

At 12:59 p.m. the department responded to a report of spilled grease at Westmark. No fire resulted,

 

In Court

Derek Bart Stewart, 34, on a Jan. 27 charge of concealing merchandise valued under $250, a class B misdemeanor, was sentenced Tuesday to one day. On a Feb. 14 charge of violating conditions of release, a class B misdemeanor, he was sentenced to one day.

 

 

Fishing Charge

Jasper P. Allbrett, 42, following an agreement with the Office of Special Prosecutions on Feb. 23 to plead guilty to two misdemeanor counts of commercial fishing in closed waters, was fined $30,000 with $20,000 suspended. He was ordered to pay $14,718.04 in restitution, and placed on probation for two years, Alaska State Troopers said in an update.

The Commercial Fisheries Entry Commission will suspend Allbrett’s Southeast Alaska commercial salmon seine permit for one year. Other charges were dismissed in the plea agreement. The original charges stemmed from a 2019 investigation on a report of commercial seining in closed waters of Black Bay, on Chichigof Island, troopers said in the original report August 31. 2021.
