Wearable Arts Show
Dear Editor: Sitka, you absolutely do not disappoint. All we can say is ‘‘Wow”! What an amazing Wearable Arts Show we had on February 10. This was such an amazing show and we are so honored to have been the producers of this event.
This event doesn’t happen without a lot of folks contributing to it. Beginning with our designers. This show is not possible at all without your creativity and spirit. It is all about what you create and how you present it. Everyone was thrilled with all of the work that each and every one of you put into your designs.
To our ladies from Whitehorse. You added a new dimension to our show. We were so thrilled to have you be a part. We hope that this will open doors for other designers from other areas to sign up and participate in Wearable Arts Shows outside of their communities. What spectacular designs and it added a new dimension to our show.
Andrew and Mary Hames, our emcees. You were amazing. You kept the show flowing and everyone was so entertained by your quips and jokes. Thank you so much.
Carla Whiteside and Marlene Van Winkle, we thank you so much for helping the models look their best with creative make-up and hair. You two put a great spin on the show with your amazing talents.
Also helping our models and the designs look their best was Elle Campbell running lights. Peter Apathy, made the music that models danced and pirouetted to flow and sound amazing. Backstage, keeping the show flowing, calming nerves, and helping every way possible were Melinda McAdams and Carole Knuth. Angela McGraw, your choreography workshop, added so much for our designers. You all are top-notch and we were so fortunate to have you assisting with this show.
When our set designer contracted COVID, Andrew Jylkka and Justin Critchner helped to create our backdrop and that spectacular moon. Your help is so appreciated. Kate DesRosiers, you were absolutely amazing how you stepped in and did whatever needed to be done from building sets to charcuterie to tracking down missing models/designers. Your upbeat presence was so amazing and we cannot thank you enough. To Cheri Hemple, another volunteer extraordinaire. You were so amazing helping to create the charcutier and keeping our volunteers busy. Jasmine Shaw, Erica Apathy, and Laura Rogers who stepped in and just did what needed to be done. Thank you so much.
MEHS Honor Society, you rock! You showed up and did whatever needed to be done. We really appreciate your willingness to seek out jobs to be done and took any task and just got it done. Thank you! Along with these students are all the AmeriCorps volunteers who showed up and assisted in the show in a multitude of positions.
Thank you to the staff of Harrigan Centennial Hall. Your expertise and trouble-shooting skills are amazing. When something needed to be dealt with, you handled it with calm and expertise.
Thank you to Fireweed Dinner Service, for helping to feed all of our designers, models, and staff in between the shows. Food fuels great performances, and the wraps were amazing.
Thanks to the Sitka Soup, Sitka Sentinel, KCAW for helping us to advertise this event through morning interviews. A special shout out to Cyndi Cassedy and Shannon Haugland from the Sentinel for helping to write PSAs and for an amazing story the week of the show. Thanks to Old Harbor Books for selling our tickets and alerting us when people had questions. This service helps so many organizations and we deeply appreciate your efforts to make this as smooth as possible.
