Police Blotter
Sitka Police Department logged the following calls as of 8 a.m. today.
March 23
At 8:51 a.m. a man who was in an ongoing dispute with another person over a truck reported having a problem with the insurance. He was advised of his options.
A man turned in a firearm he had found buried in a cemetery. Police impounded it.
A woman reported identity theft. Officers found nothing criminal had occurred.
At 2:40 p.m. a store in the 1200 block of SMC reported a customer had left and drunk some alcohol before driving off. At 3:57 p.m. he was reported to have hit a building nearby and was taken to the hospital. Charges may be pending.
At 5:36 p.m. a truck was reported broken down on the O’Connell Bridge. It was towed.
At 6:13 p.m. a vehicle was reported broken down at the stop sign at Verstovia Avenue and Lake Street. It was to be towed.
At 11:55 p.m. a man in the 1300 block of SMC reported seeing possible drug activity. He was advised of his options.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department received ambulance calls at 6:07 p.m., 8:16 p.m. and 10:24 p.m. Wednesday, and 7:54 a.m. today
At 4 p.m. Wednesday an engine and ambulance were dispatched to 1211 SMC in response to a one-vehicle accident. Two people were taken to the hospital.
Coast Guard
A Coast Guard Air Station Sitka helicopter medevacked a 74-year-old man with stroke symptoms from Skagway to Juneau on Wednesday.
The helicopter took off at 2 p.m., flew the patient from Skagway to Juneau, and returned to Sitka by 6:34 p.m.
