The following calls were recorded as of 8 a.m. today.
March 23
At 11:18 a.m. a parent asked for police assistance in getting a child to go to school.
At 1 p.m. an erratic driver was reported at Biorka and Baranof streets. Police were unable to locate the driver.
An institution told police of being scammed via email. The institution had notified the proper authorities.
A report of sexual abuse of a minor is under investigation.
At 9:15 p.m. a caller reported malicious mischief to his vehicle by a known person. Police opened a case on the incident.
The owner of two karelian bear dogs police had asked the public to help locate contacted police and was cited for having objectionable dogs.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department received one ambulance call Thursday and one early this morning.
Sitka Police
Jason Daniel Svilar, 29, was served a warrant Thursday for failure to appear for a calendar call on an Oct. 14, 2022, charge of driving with a license canceled, suspended or revoked.
Drug Arrest
Michael Souza, 44, was arraigned Wednesday on two felony counts of misconduct involving a controlled substance in the third degree and one count of misconduct in the fifth degree.
Souza has been held at the Sitka jail since his arrest Saturday as he exited a plane at the airport. Police said he had 8.8 grams of cocaine and a USPS receipt for a package mailed to him in Sitka from another state. A search warrant was granted to open the package and about 11.9 grams of cocaine was found. The approximate street value of all the cocaine recovered was $24,140, police said.
Souza is being held on $10,000 bail.
