WhaleFest Cruise
Dear Editor: Sitka WhaleFest food web cruise is a sign that spring is right around the corner. Those who attended this past Saturday enjoyed seeing whales, otters, sea lions and birds in Sitka Sound while enjoying a delicious brunch. Our guest speakers provided outstanding information about the natural world of this part of the North Pacific and people asked FANTASTIC questions. It is one of the best values of the year – great wildlife, good food, interesting speakers and camaraderie on the sea.
Sitkans are a generous bunch – always stepping up to help make an event a success. Here are the folks who made this year’s Sitka WhaleFest food web cruise happen: Sandy Kincheloe, Linda Waller, Madi Kosma, Alaina Avery, Jan Straley, Sea Mart, Big Blue Fisheries, Larkspur, Logan Wild, Kitty LaBounty, Trish White, Amy Sweeney, Jim and Dana-Ben Seeland, Lisa and Dave Moore, Lily Herwald, Bill Davis and Nancy Yaw Davis, Nancy LeClerc-Davidson, Bill Davidson, Susan Stanford, Alice Johnstone, Eric and Sarah Jordan, Judy Johnstone, Dana Pitts, Cheryl Call, Jane Eidler, Alison Stimpert, Matt, Rowan and Connor Goff, Tory O’Connell, Lisa Busch, and the board of the Sitka Sound Science Center.
Thanks to Raven Radio and the Daily Sitka Sentinel for promoting the event, Old Harbor for selling tickets and local businesses who put up our posters. A big thanks to the crew at Allen Marine, especially Captain Stu, for giving a great tour. Most importantly, our gratitude for the 90 people who bought tickets, and the whales, otter, sea lions and birds that joined us on the water. This fundraiser helps make Sitka Sound Science Center’s WhaleFest possible each November.
The next gathering at the Sitka the Sound Science Center is the Second Annual Black and White event on April 20 from 5 to 7 p.m. We will unveil our newest “exhibit.” Beverages and light fare will be served. Tickets are available for $35 at Old Harbor Books.
Science and discovery are a part of Sitka’s legacy. Thanks for the people who help continue this tradition. Best regards.
