Book Benefits
Dear Editor: Toddlers, kids and teens of Sitka are reading to make their public library 60 percent bigger and one hundred percent better! Students at Keet Gooshi Heen and Blatchley Middle schools held fundraising readathons under the direction of the incomparable librarians Anita Simic and Kari Sagel.
Not to be outdone, Friends of Kettleson Memorial Library board member Janie Hall organized and led a family readathon at Kettleson on a Friday night. Maite Lorente and the Teen Advisory Board got into the fundraising spirit and held a garage sale at Kettleson on a Saturday morning.
A total of $1,750 was raised. All funds will go to creating a children’s room and teen space in the expanded library. Congratulations to youths investing in their own future.

Kettleson Memorial Library

BIBCO Fundraiser
Dear Editor: Suzan and Rick Hess hosted an evening of “Beer, Bawdry and Beyond” at the Baranof Island Brewing Company on a recent Wednesday evening. The Friends of the Library brought appetizers and desserts to share with the public. The brewing company generously donated a portion of the evening’s proceeds.
This donation will be put toward the Friends capital campaign for the expansion of Kettleson Memorial Library. We are committed to making the library “sixty percent bigger, one hundred percent better.”
Kari Sagel,
President of the Friends
