Accident Response

Dear Editor: I would like to thank the fire department and the police department and the teachers from KGH that came and Mr. Demmert and state troopers and the EMT people and my bus driver, Mr. Danny, and Ms. Susan for helping during the bus crash.

I am thankful for all the kindness and love I experienced.

I felt safe because I had people that I trusted.

Lydia Suminski,

Proud Rider of Bus A

Trunk Art Auction

Dear Editor: Hatbox Clocks, Locked Treasure Chest, Divine Bovine Desk, Coffee Tables, Dollhouse, Tsunami Go Bags, Pet Boudoirs, Rockfish Footlocker. What do all these have in common? They were among the 30 creatively transformed trunks and suitcases at Sitka Pregnancy Center’s recent Gala Black Tie Trunk Art Auction.

Thank you to the artists who so generously donated their time and talents. You are amazing! The hors d’ouevres prepared by culinary artist Lori Adams were incredible. Thank you to all who helped her in the kitchen. Thank you to the planners, decorators, servers and other volunteers who magically changed the Sheet’ka Kwaan Naa Kahidi house into a 19th century luxury liner. It was beautiful. We could not have pulled this off without all of you.

No auction can work without an auctioneer, and Dave Miller is one of the best! Dave, and his assistant Cyndy ‘‘Vanna White’’ Gibson, had us all laughing hard and emptying our wallets. Thank you so much.

And especially thank you to everyone who joined us and supported this community service. If you happened to miss out this year, be sure to stay tuned for next year’s gala when we ask, ‘‘Who turned on the lights?’’
