Brave Heart Board
Dear Editor: I would like to thank and acknowledge the outstanding members of the Brave Heart Volunteers Board of Directors: Michele Friedman, chair; Frederick Olsen Jr., vice-chair; Gloria Pies, treasurer; Jenny Klejka, secretary; Shauna Thornton, Jerrod Galanin, Tonya Venneberg and Lacey Tuten, along with two recent former members, Elaine O’Neill and Erin Grabast. These remarkable individuals selflessly serve the organization because they value the BHV mission to provide compassionate care, companionship, respite, and education to those facing illness, isolation, end of life, and grief.
Not only do our board members attend monthly meetings, they (and sometimes even family members) regularly donate time, talent, expertise, materials, and personal funds to support the cause. No job is too insignificant or too monumental – if it nurtures the mission, they rise to the occasion. From overseeing financials, to supporting staff, to helping raise funds by selling tickets, hanging buoys, planting flamingos, or crafting bowls, whatever the task, their active participation reflects a true concern for the wellbeing of our community.
As a nonprofit, Brave Heart Volunteers could not operate without its Board of Directors and we are fortunate to have such a thoughtful, diverse, yet cohesive group at the helm. I extend my deepest thanks to each member – and to all past board members, who fostered and sustained the mission along the way. The organization has surely benefitted from their volunteerism, but more importantly, the people of Sitka have benefitted in their times of need. Thank you.
Angie DelMoral, Executive Director
