Science Camp
Dear Editor: During the recent spring break, March 17-21, 17 students and 12 staff worked together researching the ecology, cultural uses and fisheries of Pacific herring in Sitka Sound. Thanks to Michelle Ridgway, Herring Science Camp director, Alaska Deep Ocean Science Institute, and all community members and visiting scientists for supporting this inaugural Herring Science Camp hosted by Sitka National Historical Park.
Thanks to the teachers and parents who supported the herring camp concept. And, a very special thanks to the bright and curious student researchers who through their active learning breathed life and excitement into herring camp.
