Sitka Police Department logged the following calls as of 8 a.m. today.

March 3

At 5:49 a.m. Anchorage Police Department said a man Sitka police had a warrant out for had been arrested in Anchorage.

A man in the 3800 block of HPR said items had been taken from his property. Police opened an investigation.

At 12;42 p.m. a caller reported a red pickup was being driven in an erratic manner in the Granite Creek Road-HPR area. Police did not locate it.

A caller in an office in the 200 block of Katlian Street asked if there was surveillance video of the parking lot. Police advised the caller of options.

At 9:09 p.m. a vehicle with hazard lights on was found parked in the 500 block of Monastery Street. Officers found nothing was awry.

At 10:24 p.m. an out-of-town caller asked for a welfare check on a man who might be suicidal. Officers talked to the man, who denied being suicidal.

At 11:48 p.m. a man was found sleeping in a vehicle at Eagle Beach. Officers told him he had to leave.

 

Sitka Police

Arthur Kinnan, 71 was arrested Thursday on a charge of violating conditions of release.

 

Emergency Calls

Sitka Fire Department received three ambulance calls Thursday.

At 6:30 p.m. Thursday, the fire hall were called about an unattended controlled burn on Smith Street. A fire crew put out the fire.

 

Grand Jury

Jack Leroy Joseph, 32, was indicted by a Sitka grand jury Thursday on a charge of promoting contraband in the first degree, a felony class C offense. He is accused of attempting to make a “deadly weapon or a defensive weapon” (a piece of metal) while incarcerated in the Sitka jail. A hearing was scheduled 2:30 p.m. March 10.

 

In Court

A charge of concealment of merchandise filed against Isabelle Sam, 43, was dismissed without prejudice by the prosecutor on Thursday.

 

Wildlife Troopers

Fabian Grutter, 47, was cited March 3 for allegedly taking more than 20% bycatch of lingcod in the commercial halibut fishery in March 2021, in the Central Southeast Outside area, Alaska Wildlife Troopers report. His arraignment is set for March 15 in Sitka District Court.
