The following calls were recorded as of 8 a.m. today.
March 3
A caller in Oregon asked for a welfare check on someone in Sitka. Police determined the person was alive and well.
At 2:23 a.m. a man in an altered mental state was almost hit by traffic in the 300 block of Harbor Drive. He was taken to the hospital.
At 10:07 p.m. four men were reported causing a disturbance in the 200 block of Katlian. Police responded and defused the situation.
March 4
At 12:57 a.m. a caller reported a child wasn’t home. However, the child returned within half an hour.
At 1:39 a.m. a large snowball was reported hindering traffic in the 800 block of Lincoln Street. Officers removed it.
Citizen contact was made at 8:06 p.m. on Etolin Way, and at 11:27 p.m. in the 200 block of Katlian.
March 5
A caller reported heavy smoke coming from a neighbor’s chimney in the 2300 block of HPR. Police found nothing amiss.
At 2:25 a.m. a man was reported sleeping in his car at Crescent Harbor. Police told him he couldn’t do that on city property.
At 9 a.m. an apartment property manager on Burkhart Drive said someone had broken into his vehicle and tried to start it with a screwdriver, causing damage.
At 9:12 a.m. a caller said ravens were getting into spilled trash in the 200 block of Lincoln Street. The property manager was contacted and told to clean it up.
At 3:10 p.m. trash was reported in the road in the 3800 block of HPR. The property owner was told to clean it up.
At 5:46 p.m. two people were reported arguing on Burkhart Street. They were gone when officers arrived.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department received four ambulance calls Friday, two on Saturday and five on Sunday.
Vehicles Collide
Two people were taken to the hospital after a two-vehicle collision in the 1300 block of Halibut Point Road Sunday afternoon.
The injuries were not life-threatening, the fire hall said.
Police are investigating the accident.
Coast Guard
A helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Sitka medevacked an 81-year-old woman from Angoon to Sitka today after she reportedly had stroke-like symptoms, the Coast Guard said.
District 17 called the Air Station at 12:11 a.m. today, and the helicopter took off from here about 45 minutes later. The crew picked up the patient and landed back in Sitka at 2:28 a.m.
