 Salmon Lawsuit

Dear Editor: I wish to bring notice and offer a sincere thank you to all who have been involved in supporting the Alaska Trollers Association legal fund and awareness campaign. I am truly heartened by Sitka’s  community support. As well as actions both financial and other means of support throughout Southeast.

I was kind of worried in December as this lawsuit unfolded with deep repercussions for the troll fleet in Sitka and regionwide. Because this lawsuit is truly unprecedented it was hard to understand all of  its ramifications. It was a real challenge to figure out a plan of action because this was uncharted waters we were being forced to navigate through.

Sitka’s troll fleet, ALFA, ATA and many others stepped up and organized. Sitka is very fortunate to have folks like this in our community. Truly salt of the earth people.

Now to some thank you’s. First off the Sentinel staff member Shannon Haugland has excelled in her reporting and writing. Raven Radio staff, the business community, our local processor SSS and SPC, SEAGO (charter folks), the Sitka Elks Lodge – their fund raiser knocked it out of the park – Problem Corner, NSRAA, the Sitka Assembly.

That’s just Sitka. There have been numerous contributions from many other businesses, towns and villages regionwide. I don’t want to forget our local representatives in Juneau, Governor Dunleavy, our D.C. representatives. I know I missed someone or some group, so thank you also.

John Murray, Sitka
