Sitka-ized Melodrama
Dear Editor: The Greater Sitka Arts Council has been on a four-year quest to write and produce a Sitka-ized melodrama. The title of the play is ‘‘The Paris of the Pacific’’ and takes place during the 1867 exchange.
The play has been written, read with up to eight actors at a time in the various roles, and been revised several times. Our goal is to unveil it during Alaska Day this year. To that end we have also begun an Indiegogo campaign to raise funds for costumes, props, and the set. We invite you to look at the link: http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/sitka-community-theater/x/2356266 to see part of a reading and our request for financial help.
A huge thank you goes to Paul Fitzgibbon for his careful crafting of the video and patience with the readers. Thank you.

CHARR Support
Dear Editor: Just like the herring returning every spring, the Sitka Wolves softball program relies on the great support of CHARR each season. This year three teams from ‘‘up north,’’ along with Thunder Mountain, and Juneau Douglas will visit here for a series of games, the first weekend of May. This would not have been possible without the generous support of the local chapter of CHARR.
Sitka High softball and CHARR recognize that bringing groups of kids to Sitka benefits not just the softball teams, but our restaurants, stores, and shops as well. That is one of the many reasons why CHARR teams with us every season to bring quality competition to Sitka.
The girls would like to thank Stan Filler and the rest of the members of CHARR for their continued support. Come out to Moller Field May 2, 3 and 4 to watch the action.

SEARHC Cuts
Dear Editor: SEARHC leadership behaved in a cowardly manner this week when they cut their most vulnerable patients and employees to satisfy a budget cut.
When SEARHC announced plans to cut the Bill Brady Healing Center, they created a crisis for the very people who are the most dependent on a functioning and supportive organization. The patients and potential patients of BBHC are those who are the least able to organize and advocate for their right to treatment, and most in need of such treatment.
I openly question whether the SEARHC leadership has lost sight of the organization’s mission and values.

Banff Festival
Dear Editor: Southeast Alaska Independent Living (SAIL) would like to express our sincere gratitude for the support of the Banff Mountain Film Festival Sitka. The proceeds from this event were generously donated to SAIL’s outdoor recreation program which provides inclusive and adaptive activities for seniors and people with disabilities. This support helps SAIL continue to provide adventures such as hikes, kayaking, camping, and rock climbing to people who may otherwise have obstacles involved in participating. Special thank you to Dave Nevins, No Limits, Banff Film Festival Sitka Committee, and all who attended – you helped make the night a huge success. This is a great gift that will truly make a difference.
