Scott Foss
Dear Editor: Yesterday was a bittersweet day for Sitka!
Scott Foss has retired from his duties at the Sitka Fire Department. Completing 38 years of service to the community and the citizens and visitors of Sitka first as a volunteer and then as an engineer.
The knowledge and professionalism that Scott has shared with volunteers, paid staff and the community cannot be measured beyond amazing. Think how many of you have received care from Scott on an ambulance call or had your home, business, boat or property saved by either his presence on scene or by the training he has shared with volunteers and staff. Think how many of your children, grandchildren, nieces or nephews learned fire safety and what to do in an emergency. Think of how many children had fire department tours from Scott. (Keep in mind someone will continue this trend, but 38 years of doing and caring for the community – WOW!)
In my opinion Scott deserved the biggest celebration that we could give him but in true Scott form he went out quietly with no fanfare just completing his last shift with a smile, a twinkle in his eye and professional.
In closing I just want to say THANK YOU, Scott Foss – my friend, my hero, my helper in the kitchen! You deserve a long and happy retirement.
With sincere gratitude,
Louise Dennard-Olmstead, Sitka
