Police Blotter
Sitka police logged the following calls by 8 a.m. today:
May 9
A caller said his boat was hit while docked at Eliason Harbor.
At 2:26 p.m. a caller said a driver with binoculars had parked at Sealing Cove, and when he saw the caller looking at him had driven off. An officer found the driver was with Fish & Game and was watching for boats coming in with fish.
At 2:48 p.m. a caller said a dog in a car at 100 Lincoln was trying to attack, and the car windows were down so far it could get out. An officer advised the car owner to park behind the building. The caller later said the car hadn’t moved. The ACO responded and decided the dog wasn’t aggressive, and the owner rolled the windows higher.
A student at a school was cited for a tobacco violation.
At 2:30 p.m. two men were reported passing around a bottle of what appeared to be alcohol at the Skate Park. An officer advised them it’s against the law to drink in public. They poured out the rest of the alcohol.
At 7 p.m. a 911 caller asked police to call a taxi to the airport because he was too drunk to write down the taxi’s number. Dispatch called a taxi for him.
At 8 p.m. a facility said a man who’d been kicked out of short-term housing for drinking had passed out at the airport. He wasn’t allowed back in housing but couldn’t wait at the airport for his flight the next day. An officer talked to the man, who said he wanted to go to a hospital. EMS was called.
At 11:32 p.m. a 911 caller said a man was yelling and running toward the beach at the Skate Park. Officers found the man had thrown himself into the water. He was taken to a hospital.
May 10
At 2:36 a.m. an intoxicated man was reported yelling at the Mariners Wall. He was placed in protective custody.
At 4:27 a.m. a caller reported hearing yelling on Castle Hill, and someone yelling “jump.” Officers talked to some men there who were being unruly. The men were given a warning and made to clean up their litter before being escorted off the hill.
Sitka Police
Madison Anne Huffman, 26, was charged early this morning with driving under the influence.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department received ambulance calls at 8:32 p.m. and 11:37 p.m. Thursday, and 2:57 a.m. today.
At 11:32 p.m. Thursday a truck was sent to 100 Lincoln Street on a false alarm.
Grand Jury
A Sitka grand jury on May 2 indicted Daniel G. Smith, 37, on a charge of misconduct involving a controlled substance in the third degree; and Tia M. Brown, 31, on a charge of misconduct involving weapons in the third degree. The charges stem from an incident on Sept. 11, 2018.
In Court
Daniel R. Mossburg, 22, on a charge of violating conditions of probation had the original conditions reimposed.
