    Sitka police logged the following calls by 8 a.m. today:
May 10
    A caller asked for a welfare check on his son who had been intoxicated and in a hospital. Officers found the son highly intoxicated and unresponsive and took him to a hospital.
    A caller said a pit bull-mix that looked sick was on his porch. Police found it was just old. When the owner called, the ACO took it to her.
    A caller said her stepson had been assaulted by another student and she wanted to press charges.
    A goat was reported running at large in the road on Monastery Street. The ACO got it back in a pen.
     At 9:39 p.m. a gray cat was reported hit by a car at 2500 HPR. The remains were later found along the road.
      At 10 p.m. a bear was reported near the Public Safety academy. A trooper patrolled the area but saw no bear.
    At 11 p.m. a caller said a driver was trying to fight him and trying to run him off the Harbor Mountain Road. The driver was given a warning for driving with passengers in violation of his provisional license, and for disorderly conduct.
    At 11:27 p.m. a caller said a bear was getting into trash in a parking lot at 132 Indian River. An officer patrolled the area with his horn sounding but couldn’t find the bear.
May 11
    At 1 a.m. a driver reported seeing a woman apparently trying to flag him down and might need help. An officer found she was hitchhiking.
    At 11:52 a.m. a caller said her daughter told her a man had assaulted her, but the caller didn’t know where her daughter was. Officers tracked down the daughter, who said the situation was a misunderstanding.
    A caller said she’d seen a woman slap her dog three times in the face while disciplining it for digging a hole. The caller said she’d told the woman she shouldn’t be slapping the dog so many times, and that it’s tied up all day and is just displaying dog behavior. She said the woman told her to mind her own business. The caller also said the dog cowered when the woman came outside. The ACO was notified.
    At 5:23 p.m. a caller said a dead sea lion was on the beach above the tide line in the 5200 block of HPR. Eagles were eating on it, and the caller was worried it might attract bears.
    A 22 250 Savage rifle was reported stolen.
    At 7:50 p.m.  a caller said her son had gone bike riding about 8 hours before and she couldn’t find him. Officers found the son and other juveniles had gone bike riding. An adult called later to say they were taken home.
    At 8:18 p.m. a caller said  a dog had been tied up without  food or water all day on Granite Creek Road and might be “bear bait.”
    At 9 p.m. a caller said a man walking with a rifle had put it down when he entered a restaurant at 913 HPR. The man told an officer he was just waiting for a boat to pick him up.
     At 9:31 p.m. a 911 caller whispered “help me.” Officers found the man had fallen. EMS picked him up.
    At 11:11 p.m. a caller reported two bears were at the start of Indian  River Road. Officers patrolled the area for about an hour but found no bears.
    At 11:15 a.m. a 911 caller reported a bear was in his driveway at 202 Indian River Road then had run toward the woods. Officers, including those already in the area, were advised.
May 12
    At 12:15 a.m. a caller said a bear was at the bus stop across from 120 Indian River Road. Officers followed it to near the trooper academy, where it apparently was trying to get into the kitchen. It went into the woods.
    At 4:41 a.m. a young child was reported in the airport parking lot, crying, wearing a onesie and boots, and carrying an iPad. Police found the child’s home nearby, with a sliding door open. The child’s mother was found asleep in an upstairs bedroom, and officers left the child in her custody once she was fully awake.
    A patient on 72-hour hold was getting dressed and trying to leave, police were told. He later agreed to stay.
     A blooming tree was reported stolen from Alice Loop Saturday or Sunday.
    Hospital workers asked for help with an unruly patient until counselors arrived. The patient was taken to jail.
    A Trek bike with rack and saddle bags was stolen from Eliason Harbor.
    At 5:47 p.m. a man called for help but wouldn’t or couldn’t say what was wrong. He was taken to a hospital.
    At 9:27 p.m. a woman said her son reported a large bear in the Andrew Hope Street area. It had gotten into trash the night before. A second call about the bear came in at 10:06 p.m.
    At 11 p.m. a man was reported passed out in the 300 block of Lincoln Street. He agreed to head home.


Grand Jury

    Richard W. Mcgrath, 75, was indicted by a Sitka grand jury Thursday on three counts of sexual assault in the second degree. The indictment alleges that Mcgrath engaged in sexual contact with a person he “knew was unaware that a sexual act was being committed and the offender was a health care worker,” on Oct. 15, 16 and 25, 2018, court records said. Mcgrath had been indicted on eight counts of sexual assault in the second degree in April.
    Luke E. Vroman, 33, was indicted Thursday on one count of theft in the second degree. The indictment said on Jan. 29, Vroman committed the crime of theft and the value of the property or services was between $750 and $25,000. He is to appear in court 9:45 a.m. May 17.

    Sitka Fire Department received two ambulance calls Friday, four Saturday and five Sunday.
