Police Blotter
Sitka police logged the following calls by 8 a.m. today:
May 13
A Celebrity Cruises visitor lost his wallet on Sunday.
Vandalism was reported at Sitka National Historical Park.
A woman and her grandson told police he found jewelry in bags in the woods off Marine Street.
A hospital worker reported a hole in a window from a BB pellet.
Officers picked up two Jack Russell terriers at Granite Creek.
A resident reported an item stolen from his boat at Eliason Harbor.
A Fitbit watch found near Whale Park was turned in.
A pink binder was reported lost at the library Monday afternoon.
At 10:04 p.m. a bear was seen in the Andrew Hope Drive area. Police didn’t see the bear but noted an overturned trash container. A second report of a bear was received at 11:09 p.m.
At 11:23 p.m. a caller reported seeing a woman being “held up” by two men. Police talked to the three, who were intoxicated.
May 14
A caller said drivers were gunning engines and tearing into and out of a trailer court in the 2300 block of HPR. All was quiet when police arrived.
At 1:24 a.m. a large one-eyed bear was reported knocking over trash cans on Indian River Road. Officers and Fish and Game were advised.
At 2:07 a.m. a man was reported tangled up in his bike at Shelikof and HPR. He said he’d crashed but wasn’t injured. Police said the man was able to care for himself.
At 5:51 a.m. a woman who seemed confused was reported going in and out of a hospital building.
At 5:57 a.m. a resident called for an ambulance because he was dehydrated, his legs were cramping and he was unable to walk.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department dispatched ambulances at 11:43 a.m. and 2:01 p.m. Monday; and 12:09 a.m., 6 a.m. and 8:22 a.m. today.
In Court
Chatham H. Hansen, 18, was sentenced to 30 days, with 27 suspended, and fined $1,500 on a charge of driving under the influence. He is to be evaluated for counseling and his license will be revoked for 90 days. He will be on probation for a year.
Travis W. Adams, 32, was sentenced to 30 days, suspended, for reckless driving. He is to seek counseling and his license will be revoked for 30 days. He is to forfeit his gun that was seized. Charges of reckless endangerment and misconduct involving weapons in the fourth degree were dismissed.
