Police Blotter
Sitka police logged the following calls by 8 a.m. today:
May 14
An officer reported finding evidence of drug use while on a home visit with the adult probation officer.
The animal control officer checked out a report of possible dog neglect and found the dog looked to be in terrible shape. The owner told the ACO the dog was 15 years old, and in the care of a veterinarian.
The ACO gave a final verbal warning to a man on a bike whose dog was off leash. The man also was advised the warning extended to his girlfriend, who also regularly has the dog off leash.
At 11:30 a.m. a caller complained of dogs barking on Vitskari Street. The ACO didn’t hear any barking.
At 12:08 p.m. a no-injury traffic accident was reported at New Archangel and Andrews streets.
Three vehicles at 410 Lake Street, one on Cascade Street and one on Brady Street were red-tagged for being junked/abandoned.
A medical clinic said a man claiming to be from DEA told a doctor he/she was being investigated for illegal drug trafficking and someone would be there in half an hour to take his/her license. The caller also asked the doctor to verify personal information, which was incorrect but which the doctor did not correct. The caller was given the FBI address of IC3.gov to report the call.
A caller said her daughter had stolen some items from the residence.
A Samsung Galaxy S9 found at Cross Trail was turned in.
A woman turned in a small, clear container with a baggy filled with a white powdery substance. An officer took custody of it for proper disposal.
At 8:46 p.m. a caller reported seeing three males on a pathway in the 800 block of Lincoln Street who appeared to be engaged in drug activity. Officers contacted the three and advised them of the complaint.
A 911 caller said her husband had hit her after getting angry at their sons for fighting. Officers determined he’d hit her accidentally. He was given a disorderly conduct warning, and agreed to leave for the night.
At 10:25 p.m. a caller reported fireworks in the 500 block of DeGroff. An officer couldn’t find the source.
At 10:41 p.m. a caller reported hearing a single gunshot on Indian River Road and was concerned someone was trying to scare a bear. Officers couldn’t locate the source.
At 11:10 p.m. a female and juvenile male were at the Skate Park past curfew and after hours. An officer spoke to the two about the curfew and park hours.
May 15
At 12:29 a.m. a caller said a friend had messaged a suicide attempt. EMS was contacted.
At 6:12 a.m. a caller reported finding a dead deer partially in the roadway in the 3000 block of SMC. The caller said it appeared to have been there awhile and was attracting birds.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department received ambulance calls at 8:22 a.m., 10:09 a.m. Tuesday, and 12:39 a.m. and 1:31 a.m. today.
In Court
Derek James Daly, 28, of Wasilla, on a March charge of resisting/interfering with arrest by force, a class A misdemeanor, was sentenced to 15 days with credit for time served. Charges of misconduct involving a controlled substance in the fourth degree, and giving false information were dismissed.
