Teen Nights

Dear Editor: What started as a thought, become a vision, and now a reality through collaborations, partnerships and community support.

Teen Nights at Hames Center have proven to be a need and a success. Providing a late night space full of activity, Teen Night attendance has reached more than 250 youths in three short months. May 25th will wrap up our first few months of the program and will return in September.

I want to extend a HUGE thank you to those organizations, businesses and individuals who have provided financial support to get the program up and going.

First, the Sitka Health Summit for providing a forum where ideas come to life and collaborations began. Our partnering organizations who provided both financial and volunteer support: SEARHC, Sitka Counseling, Hope Coalition and Youth Advocates.

Thank you to the following individuals and businesses for their support as well: Harry Race Soda Shop, Mike’s Floors, Michael Scarcelli, Tatum Sornborger, Helen Raschik, Marlie Loomis, Patrick O’Donnell, Lauren Allen, David and Cheryl Vastola, Trevor and Barbara Webb, Kate Norgon, Sydney Carter, Laura Rogers and Susan Littman. Thank you Kelli and Jorgen Eliason for the foosball table! To the folks who have spent late night hours – past most of our bed times – to volunteer each Friday night and interact positively with our youths: Loyd and Julie Platson, Charlie and Trina Woodcock, Vera Gibson, Cheri Hample, Abe Kanter, Tenelle Bragg, Kelli and Jorgen Eliason, Heather Cromwell, Joseph Wilson, Stacy Johnson, and Dakota Bauder – thank you! Lastly, thank you to all who helped spread the word. We look forward to continuing the program in September, after the summer break, while we work to secure future funding. So thankful to be a part of this wonderful community. With gratitude,

Dawn Johnson,

Hames Center Director
