Police Blotter
Sitka police logged the following calls by 8 a.m. today:
May 15
Police picked up a deer carcass from Granite Creek Road and delivered it to the Fortress of the Bear.
A dog abandoned by its owner was surrendered to the animal shelter.
A caller said a woman painting graffiti on a rock on Herring Cove Road.
A woman said she’d received hang-up calls from different numbers threatening to have her arrested, asking if she wanted to ride their bike and calling her husband “a bitch.”
At 4:58 p.m. a traffic accident with damage was reported in the 300 block of Lincoln Street.
At 6:15 p.m. a cash box was reported missing at the Keet ballfield.
At 7:07 p.m. a caller said a baby bald eagle fell on the ground in the 700 block of SMC. A resident picked it up, put it in a box, and called the Raptor Center.
At 7:15 p.m. a caller said a springer spaniel was attacked by a great Dane at Erler and Spruce street. An officer saw no signs of injury, and advised the animal control officer.
At 9:24 p.m. an unknown man knocked on Burkhart Street doors and walked away. The caller said when she looked through the peephole, the man had his face pressed against it. He was gone when police checked.
Sitka Police
Joseph J. Williams, 42, was charged early today with violating conditions of release (consuming alcohol).
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department received ambulance calls at 7 a.m., 7:23 a.m., 9:06 a.m. and 8:43 p.m. Wednesday.
In Court
Damien C. Soto, 21, was sentenced to 10 days, with two suspended, on a charge of harassment in the second degree (offensive physical contact). He was charged originally with assault in the fourth degree but pleaded guilty to the lesser charge. He will be on probation for a year.
