Sitka Police Department logged the following calls as of 8 a.m. today.

May 13

An iPhone was found on Back Beach. Police could not contact the owner, and the item was placed in the police property drawer.

At 10:38 p.m. a dog was reported to be running at large at Jamestown Drive and SMC. The animal control officer wasn’t able to locate it.

At 12:07 p.m. a caller in the 500 block of O’Cain Street reported her dog was missing.

An Austin Street caller reported a barking dog. The animal control officer responded.

At 4:41 p.m. a wallet was reported found at the national park visitor center. A verbal message was left for the owner.

A possible sex offense was reported. Police opened a case file.

A woman who was out of town asked for a welfare check on her husband. She called back a half-hour later saying she had heard from him.

May 14

A caller from out of town asked for a welfare check on a woman who hadn’t answered calls. Police found the woman had been asleep and was fine.

At 1:58 a.m. a man at Lincoln Street and Maksoutoff was given a verbal warning for having an open container.

At 5:14 a.m. a man was reported having drug withdrawal symptoms. Police helped him to the hospital.

At 9:33 a.m. a dog was reported going after chickens again in the 3300 block of HPR. Police contacted the dog’s caretaker, and notified the animal control officer.

At 9:37 a.m. a caller complained about barking dogs on Patterson Way. The animal control officer was advised.

At 12:26 p.m. a driver was reported to have left a gas station without paying. Officers contacted the driver, who agreed to return to pay.

At 8:37 p.m. a woman was reported to have collapsed at an apartment on Alice Loop Road. She declined EMS.

At 8:37 p.m. blue and black smoke was reported in the 1800 block of Edgecumbe Drive. Police found cardboard boxes were being burned, and there was no hazard.

May 15

A wallet was found at the national park at 8:30 a.m. A verbal message was left for the owner, and in the meantime the wallet was put in the police property drawer.

At 2:10 p.m. a two-vehicle accident was reported in the 300 block of Seward Street. There were no injuries, and the drivers exchanged information.

At 5:15 p.m. a break-in was reported aboard a boat at Thomsen Harbor. The owner is out of town so harbors personnel put on a new lock.

At 6:36 p.m. a dog was reported missing from O’Cain Street. However, it returned a short time later.

May 16

At 2:02 a.m. a caller complained some intoxicated people were being loud and disorderly in the 400 block of Lake Street. Officers responded.

At 6:22 a.m. a waterline was reported broken on Sirstad Street. The water department was notified.

 

Emergency Calls

Sitka Fire Department received three ambulance calls Friday, seven on Saturday ad four on Sunday.

 

Sitka Police

Terrance Joe Damien Roth, 22, was arrested on a warrant Saturday stemming from a charge of theft in the second degree, access to a device or ID document, on June 22, 2018.

Arthur J. Kinnan, 71, was charged with violating conditions of release Friday.

 

 

 

Coast Guard

A Coast Guard Air Station Sitka helicopter crew searched for about two hours Sunday after receiving a mayday radio call from Sitka Sound.

No one was found in distress and the radio call was deemed to be a “false alert,” the Coast Guard said.

The Air Station was notified of the distress call on Channel 16 at 12:10 p.m., launched at 12:40 p.m., and searched for about two hours before returning to the station.
