BBQ Thanks
Dear Editor: Families for Schools wishes to acknowledge the businesses and organizations that supported our teacher appreciation barbecue on April 26. Big thanks to the following: Fish to Schools and local fishermen for donating the delicious coho salmon; Sea Mart for sponsoring the student-hosted sundae bar; Marley Family Dentistry for supplying plates and utensils; the crowd of parent and student volunteers who helped set up and serve food. This event was truly a community effort and a reflection of the value our town places on education.
And to the teachers, support staff, and administrators who show their dedication to Sitka’s children every day: a thousand thanks, and have a wonderful summer.

MEHS Commencement
Dear Editor: Mt. Edgecumbe High School graduated 82 students at our commencement ceremony at the Sitka Performing Arts Center on May 9. Thank you to the helpful, professional, and easy to work with staff at the Performing Arts Center for making it a successful celebration. Drew Sherman, Christina Van Den Hoogen, and Kenley Jackson graciously worked to assure that the details of lights, sound, seating, and electronics were ideal. It is always an honor to hold our ceremony in this beautiful venue.
We would also like to thank Bev’s Flowers for beautifying graduation with her floral expertise every year. Thanks is also in order to the Sitka Daily Sentinel for providing thoughtful attention to this event. Families from around Alaska arrive in Sitka and appreciate your coverage of graduation.
MEHS students and staff greatly appreciate the many community organizations that award scholarships to MEHS seniors. These awards highlight the dynamic relationship Mt. Edgecumbe High School students share with the Sitka community. We, at MEHS, thank you for honoring the hard work and accomplishments of our students.
Finally, thank you to the community members, MEHS alumni and family that helped us celebrate the Class of 2019.
