Anderson City
Clerk Charged
By Sentinel Staff
The city clerk of Anderson, an Interior community of around 200, was charged Tuesday with scheme to defraud and theft in the first degree for allegedly embezzling city funds and depositing them into her own bank account, Troopers said today.
Trista Jennings, 37, was remanded to the Fairbanks Correctional Center on the felony charges. Troopers said the investigation is continuing and more charges may be filed.
Anderson city officials reported the suspected theft to Troopers May 12, which assigned the case to the Healy post troopers and the financial crimes unit for a thorough investigation, Troopers said.
Troopers determined that Jennings had been working as the city clerk at the time of the theft, and that at least $105,000 had been stolen, “nearly depleting all of the city’s funds.”
Both of the charges are class B felonies, each punishable by up to 10 years in prison and fines of up to $100,000.
Anderson is in the Denali Borough northeast of Healy and 75 miles southwest of Fairbanks.
