Tulong Aral Scholarships
Dear Editor: The Tulong Aral Scholarship Committee would like to thank Mike Duckworth Jr. and Silver Bay Seafoods for their support of Sitka’s newest scholarship, the Tulong Aral Scholarship for students of Filipino heritage.
Thanks to the generous donation of Silver Bay Seafoods we were able to award eight students $500 scholarships. The committee appreciates the role that Silver Bay Seafoods plays in Sitka’s economy and the employment if offers. Mr. Duckworth joined Donnalyn Chong of Wells Fargo and Grace Nabua (Pastor Jojo) of the United Methodist Church in presenting the awards to Sitka School District seniors Justine Agullana, Sergio Carlos, Joshua Antolin, Elijah Dylan Dumag, Beatrice Perez-Petersen, Marlene Sarmiento, Elaiza Faye Sibayan and Jenivive Sibayan.
These students plan to pursue further education in civil engineering, software engineering, nursing, art history, medicine, English, elementary education, and entrepreneurship.
Thank you to award committee members Principal Sondra Lundvick, Pastor Grace Nabua (Pastor Jojo), Ben Cordero, Donnalyn Chong and Jarred Rivera. Thank you to Brooke Rivera, Sitka High School accountant, for managing the scholarship fund. Donations can be made at tinyurl.com/filipinoscholarship. We are working hard to endow this scholarship for all future graduating classes.
