The following calls were logged as of 8 a.m. today.
May 18
At 2 a.m. a caller reported someone yelling in the 1200 block of SMC. Police found no one yelling in the area.
At 9:17 a.m. a caller reported a dog was in a crate inside a parked car in the 1600 block of HPR. The windows were down but the caller was concerned. Police contacted the dog’s owner.
At 9:24 a.m. a man was reported lying on the grass at Sealing Cove. He told police he was on his way home from the hospital and was just resting a bit.
A shoplifter was reported in the 100 block of Lincoln Street. A case file was opened on the incident.
An intoxicated man was reported in the 700 block of HPR. He and three others left and went to the 400 block of Swan Lake, where, at 5:32 p.m., one of the men was reported attacking another. One man was given a ride to the hospital and the other was give a disorderly conduct warning.
An officer saw a child wreck his bike in the 800 block of Lincoln Street. The child was taken to the mother.
A case was opened on a woman’s report of harassment.
At 7:04 p.m. a woman was reported drinking on Patterson Way. Police found no one matching the description.
At 7:39 p.m. a caller said a man in a parked car in the 300 block of Lincoln Street might have passed out. The car was gone when officers arrived.
At 9 p.m. a caller said a vehicle was in the roadway in the 2000 block of SMC. The driver said he had stopped to take photos.
May 19
At 12:37 a.m. callers complained of noise in the 400 block of Lake Street, where people were playing cards and being loud. After talking with police the group agreed to be quieter.
At 4:30 a.m. a dead deer was reported at Halibut Point Recreation Area. The carcass was taken to the Raptor Center.
At 5:28 a.m. a man was reported in the road yelling, in the 700 block of Lake Street. He was taken to the hospital then back to his home.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department received five ambulance calls Thursday, and one fire alarm that involved a sprinkler but no fire.
Coast Guard
A Coast Guard Air Station Sitka helicopter launched early this morning to look for a missing hiker near Pirate Cove, but the hiker was found not to be in distress and the helicopter returned.
The call was received around 3:30 a.m. today, the helicopter launched within a half hour, and was back in Sitka around 4:09 a.m. after hearing confirmation the hiker was fine, the Coast Guard said.
