Sitka Police Department logged the following calls as of 8 a.m. today.

April 29

At 1:36 a.m. a communal trash can was reported off the cradle but with the chains intact on Andrew P. Hope Street.

At 3:17 a.m. a bear was seen on Rudolph Walton Circle. Police scared it off with lights and sirens. The trash was cleaned up, and Fish and Game and the troopers were notified.

A dog running at large on Back Beach was returned to its owner.

A caller reported possible abuse of dogs on Burkhart Street. The animal control officer spoke to the dogs’ owner and found nothing wrong.

A wallet found at Cannon Island and SMC was turned in to police.

At 3:56 p.m. a very intoxicated man was taken to a medical center.

At 5:38 p.m. a caller said a man in a truck was following a woman walking in the 1800 block of HPR. Officers checked and found nothing criminal.

A tribal ID card found downtown was turned in at the police station.

A group of people smoking and drinking under the Totem Park foot bridge were advised of park hours and the regulations on open containers.

At  9:52 p.m. fireworks were reported on Seward Avenue.

At 10:10 p.m. juveniles partying at Herring Cove were given a verbal warning about minor consuming rules.

At 10:39 p.m. a person at a bar was given a verbal warning about consuming marijuana in public.

April 30

At 1 a.m. a caller said a bear had knocked over a trash can on Indian River Road. Officers warned residents about having a bear attractant.

At 1:11 a.m. a downtown bar reported a woman kept calling about a lost wallet.

At 1:44 a.m. a bear was reported on Rudolph Walton Circle. Officers used sirens and lights to chase it into the woods.

At 2:30 a.m. a car was reported parked at Old Sitka. The occupant told officers he was watching northern lights.

At 11:54 a.m. a dog running loose on Peterson Street ran off before officers arrived.

Residents on DeGroff Street complained of loud music. Officers were unable to locate any loud music.

A mood ring found at Crescent Harbor women’s bathroom was turned in.

At 3:08 p.m. a caller reported a sex offender was at a children’s playground in the 800 block of Lincoln Street. Officers took the person to the station to fill out paperwork.

At 3:24 p.m. a dog was reported running at large at the roundabout. The ACO was unable to locate it.

At 4:56 p.m. three men were given disorderly conduct warnings for harassing pedestrians at Crescent Harbor.

At 5:44 p.m. a caller said toxic wood was being burned near the ferry terminal. Officers were unable to locate anything being burned.

At 9:50 p.m. a woman being evicted from a downtown apartment was reported trying to get back in. The landlord was to call back in the morning after getting paperwork completed.

May 1

People at Whale Park at 12:02 a.m. were advised about curfew hours.

At 2:03 a.m. a man was reported rolling on the ground at Totem Square. He was taken to receive medical care.

Ravens were reported spreading trash at American and Lincoln streets.

Keys were found at Sealing Cove.

A juvenile was reported causing damage at the Sitka Sound Science Center. An investigation is underway.

May 2

A man and woman reported sleeping on a bench  at Crescent Harbor at 12:09 a.m. were found to be able to care for themselves and they left the area.

 

 

Emergency Calls

Sitka Fire Department received six ambulance calls Friday, three on Saturday and nine on Sunday.

 

Sitka Police

Arthur Jeffery Kinnan, 71, was charged Saturday with violating conditions of release.

Walter Boyd, 38, was charged Sunday with violating conditions of release.

 

Divorces

The following couples were granted divorces in April: Joseph Ryan Stocker and Evelyn Nikole (Edenshaw) Calhoun; and Mila Dalida Honrade and Edwin Bognot Honrade.

 

Marriages

The following couples applied for marriage licenses in May:

Laurent Deviche and Jessica Alane Twydell.

Theodore Andrew Denny and Jennifer Gloria Ann Flood.

Michael Starnes and Pamela Garner.
