Julie Hughes Triathlon

Dear Editor: The Julie Hughes Triathlon committee and the Baranof Barracudas Swim Club want to thank all of its participants, sponsors and volunteers for a successful 35th annual event.

Thanks especially to Russell’s, Sea Mart, Yellow Jersey Cycles, SEARHC, the Ryan Kauffman Fund, and Weiland Construction for all their support, as well as KCAW and the Daily Sitka Sentinel for helping advertise the event.

We also thank the City of Sitka Police Department for assisting with traffic control and helping keep our participants safe. Results can be found at www.racesplitter.com, and on the Julie Hughes Triathlon Facebook page. See you all for our 36th annual event on May 16, 2020!

Colors of Community

Dear Editor: The Colors of the Community Project at Blatchley Middle School would like to extend its gratitude to First Bank for the generous donation of monies to support our project. The monies were used to print student photos and purchase supplies to support the showcase at the middle school POPS concert. The mission of this project, as written by students, is to “collaboratively and creatively celebrate the rich diversity of Sitka, Alaska, highlighting students and community members through visual art. This project will represent the culture of our town and honor our community.”

Thank you, First Bank, for supporting our youth and for encouraging school-community connections. Additionally, we send big thank-yous to Mindy Samman of Blatchley Middle School; Hillary Nutting of Sitka Tribe of Alaska; and Juan Cediel of Americorps, STA, and the Sitka School District for their hard work and unyielding support of this project.
