May 23, 2023, Police Blotter

The following calls were logged as of 8 a.m. today.

May 22

At 12:10 a.m. a man was reported passed out in the Castle Hill parking lot. He was taken to the hospital.

At 7:50 a.m. a man sleeping on a bench at totem park was awakened and agreed to leave.

A case was opened on a report of a sex offense.

At 5:59 p.m. a cruise ship reported a passenger was missing. Police  found the passenger and returned the person to the ship.

At 6:30 p.m. a driver reported hitting an eagle, breaking the windshield, near the Halibut Point Recreation Area. Police gave the driver a self-report form.

At 6:30 p.m. an officer went to Sitka High School where families were arriving for graduation ceremonies.

At 10:07 p.m. an abandoned vehicle at Eliason Harbor was tagged.

May 23

At 1:20 a.m. a bartender reported a man was creating a disturbance at a downtown bar. He left before police arrived. Officers talked with bar patrons and determine no crime had been committed.

At 5:23 p.m. a man was reported cutting wood illegally near the shooting range at Starrigavan. Police notified him he was trespassing, and had to stop. A case was opened on the incident.

 

 Emergency Calls

Sitka Fire Department received five ambulance calls Monday.

 

Coast Guard

A Coast Guard Air Station Sitka helicopter Monday night medevacked a 56-year-old woman with abdominal pain, from Haines to Sitka.

The helicopter launched at 10:30 p.m., picked up the woman and returned by 1:04 a.m. today. The patient was taken to Mt. Edgecumbe Medical Center for care.
