Sitka Cirque
Dear Editor: The Sitka Cirque performance of TIDES was the most extraordinary original piece of work that I have ever seen in Sitka. From start to finish it was totally mesmerizing ... it was an amazing collaboration of sights, musical sounds, artistry, and story lines.
The ways in which the characters were developed and the techniques Zach used to tell the story were compelling. The audience was in complete rapture wondering what would happen next...even the small children were at full attention during the whole performance! Frances Donohoe, Charles Hart and Zeke Blackwell are to be commended for this original creation. Zachary Desmond did an exquisite job writing the narrative and performing the narration as well.
Thank you, Sitka Cirque and the entire cast and crew, for the wonderful evening.

GOTR Fun Run
Dear Editor: Sitkans Against Family Violence and the Girls on the Run of Greater Alaska council would like to thank everyone who came out for the 2016 5K Community Fun Run. This 5K was the final celebratory event for our amazing participants, girls in third-fifth grades, who have been learning healthy lifestyle skills, building self-esteem and training over the past 12 weeks. We had so many family members, friends and community members come out to cheer them on and help them each achieve their 5K goal. Way to go girls.
This event would not have been possible without the work of all the wonderful volunteers who helped with participant registration, added to the celebration through activities like face painting, ran as personal supporters with the participants, and were great cheerleaders. Thank you to everyone who contributed time and energy to make this event such a success.
Many community sponsors donated as well to make the season and the 5K possible, including the Hames Corporation, Russell’s, the Hames Center and SEARHC hospital. Many of our participants receive scholarships to be a part of GOTR, and we are very grateful for the organizations and individuals who help support this positive program for Sitka youths.
Again, thank you to everyone who helped bring such joy and celebration to the community of Sitka through the GOTR 5K. Gunalchéesh!

Dinner Fundraiser
Dear Editor: Many thanks to Duane and Tracie at Dove Island Lodge as well as their staff and the phenomenal people who came out for dinner Saturday night. Great conversations were had over excellent food and we left feeling energized by the support that was shown for our little school at a time when we are growing and adding new programs. We look forward to continuing those conversations and sharing our successes with all of our friends!
