Big Rig Thanks
Dear Editor: Our 3 to 5 Preschool’s 5th annual BIG RIG Fundraiser with the 1st 5K and Fun Run was very well attended due to the nice weather and our town’s amazing community support. We certainly appreciate the enthusiasm that is shared for this fun spring event each year.
First of all we want to thank all the businesses and individuals who brought their BIG Rigs, emergency and personal vehicles for everyone to see and/ or climb on. This year we had about 40 vehicles and we were so glad to have new people joining in to share their vehicles as well. We were very blessed to have many student volunteers from both the Mt. Edgecumbe High National Honor Society, and LEAD group, plus Sitka High National Honor Society who were Safety VIPS. We also had members from Sitka’s Iota Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, an Americorp volunteer and her friend, Namrita, who is a Foreign Exchange student from Pakistan, friends from the Coast Guard, parents and friends of the preschool and others all working on site. What fun to have Giggles the clown present to bring even more joy to our event. We feel very blessed and can’t say enough about all those who together donated hundreds of volunteer hours prior to the event and on Saturday to make this event possible.
We thank the Sitka Fire Department for allowing us to have a drawing for a ride on the the SFD ladder truck. We appreciate Mt. Edgecumbe High School’s letting us have our event on their school’s parking lot. It’s a perfect location to have all of the parked vehicles there and to have had the Run for Education 5K and Fun Run start and finish there.
We appreciate the Sitka Public Works for letting us borrow items to make it a safe event for everyone, and to the Daily Sitka Sentinel, KIFW and Raven Radio for advertising our event, too. We thank White’s Specialty Shop for donating a certificate to the winner of the 5K Run and to Sitka Bottling for their donation. We thank Tilda Carbillon for her pancit which was delicious and sold out quickly.
Lastly, a huge thank you goes to this year’s BIG RIG sponsors. They were Absolute Tree Care, AC Lakeside, Allen Marine Tours, Arrowhead Transfer, GCI, MCG Construction, Prewitt Enterprises, Sea Mart, and Tisher Construction. The extra money and donations given by these sponsors went into our preschool’s scholarship fund and also helped with the expenses for this fundraiser.
A special thank you goes to EVERYONE who helped to make our 5th annual Big Rig event another successful fundraiser for our preschool.
