Dear Editor: Thank you to everyone who made the 19th annual running of the Medvejie Solstice Run a success! The run is a fundraiser for the Sitka High School Track and Field and Cross Country programs, and it is wholly run by volunteers.
We are grateful to the Daily Sitka Sentinel staff, especially Shannon Haugland and Cyndi Cassedy, as well as Raven Radio, for helping spread the word about the race. Thank you to Sitka High School graduate, Taylor Cushing, for creating this year’s T-shirt logo with support from Charlie Skultka. Thank you to Tyler Eddy and the team at Harry's Custom for creating the shirts.
This event would not be possible without the generosity of our sponsors: AC Lakeside, ABC Coastal Excursions, Delta Western, Hames Corporation, Hard Rock Construction, Marley Family Dentistry, Russell's, Schmolck Mechanical, Sitka Rotary Club, Sitka Sound Cruise Terminal, Sitka Volunteer Fire Department, and Michael and Tonya Venneberg.
A huge thank you to our dedicated volunteers, who gave their time and energy to make race day run smoothly: Justin Bagley, Sara Beaber-Fujioka, Carolyn Black, Cindy Edwards, Crystal Essex, Janie Hall, Shannon Haugland, Randy Hitchcock, Patrick Heuer, Collauna Marley, Brian McLaughlin and the volunteer Search and Rescue crew, Nikki Moore and family, Mike Mullin, Aaron Prussian, and Jeren Schmidt.
Finally, thank you to the coaches who support our young athletes year-round: Shasta Smith, Jeremy Strong, Ted Bahrt, Greg Hunter, and the Sitka High School leadership team, especially Kate Puckett.
With gratitude,
Bridget Hitchcock,
KK Prussian, Elizabeth Bagley
